At the Kansas City Tweetup

On Friday evening, the family went up to the roof at Barkley for the first Kansas City Tweetup.  For grandmas, grandpas, aunts, and well…  probably everyone reading (except for two people), we need to explain what a Tweetup is.

There’s a web service called Twitter that is known as a microblogging service. It simply asks one question: “What are you doing?”  From there, you type in what you’re doing in 140 characters or less. As an example, here’s a “Tweet” (Twitter post) from Robin earlier today.

Put @tatertini down for a nap.  Trying to figure out why the hell my foot hurts.  I’m getting old.

If you’re wondering, @tatertini is Nathan’s Twitter name.  I am @3rdmartini and Robin is @rabbittini.

This is really an awful explanation of Twitter, and I know it probably doesn’t make much sense.  Really, for the purposes of this post it doesn’t matter.  Just know it’s something dad does a lot, mom is starting to do, and Nathan got started with last night.

Anyway, the Tweetup was where all the Twitter users in Kansas City were invited to come and meet each other since most of the time we all know each other only through a bunch of text on the computer screen.  It gives every one a chance to put faces to names and make new friends.

Nathan was the smallest Twitterati there, as you can imagine.  He dazzled the group with his tiny sandals.  Really, just like the art gallery exhibit at the beginning of the month, he was absolutely awesome in public.  He loves being social!

4 (1/2) month stats

Nathan had his second well-baby check today and he is growing so big. He weighs 16lbs 2.5 oz (50th percentile) and is 26 3/4 inches long (91st percentile). His doctor is very pleased with his growth and development so far. She said that we can start giving him veggies when we think he is ready, so we might start that this weekend. Yesterday we found that he enjoys gumming carrot sticks. I guess the cold and hard texture feels good on his gums where the very stubborn tooth is hanging out. Still no progress there, but we’ve been told to be patient because it can take a while. Nathan was also very interested in the popcorn I was eating last night and kept trying to grab it out of the bag. Daddy had to hold the bag away from him because he was being quite persistent.

Nate received 4 shots today. He took them like a champ and only cried for a couple seconds. We came home and after having a 6 oz. bottle he is fast asleep.

Hopefully he will feel better this afternoon. It is a very nice day here, perfect for dinner and shopping on the Plaza.

Daddy also had a check-up yesterday with his cardiologist. Everything looks really good - EKG, blood pressure, etc. He was told to keep up with what he is doing and continue exercising and eating healthy.

Yay for good health!

Just like Wilfred Brimley…

Nathan loves oatmeal!

We decided after 2 weeks of rice cereal to move on to oatmeal.  Nate has lost his tongue-thrust reflex, so he keeps just about all of the oatmeal in his mouth now.  We don’t even have to use a bib, which is good because that stuff is very sticky and hard to remove.

Nathan has his 4 month doctor appointment on Saturday (which is more like 4 1/2 months, but who’s counting).  If all goes well and he continues to enjoy his oatmeal we will start him on veggies in a week or so.  Let’s hope he likes veggies better than his momma!
