We have a tooth!

At 5 1/2 months, Nathan’s first tooth has popped up. Interestingly enough, it is not the tooth that has been sitting ever so patiently below the surface for the past month or so. This tooth literally popped up over night. I could tell yesterday morning that his teeth were bothering him because he was tugging at his ear. I ran my finger on his gums and didn’t feel anything. He even chewed on my knuckle and I couldn’t feel the tooth. Strange.

I tried to take a picture tonight but Nathan won’t let us look in his mouth. We will try to get a picture within the next couple of days. Until then, here is a somewhat related picture. Nate really likes to suck on ice, especially since he now has 3 teeth waiting in the wings. This is a little ringed holder that we can put fruit (or ice) in for Nathan to suck or chew on. He gets so wet, but he enjoys it.

Sir Messy

Okay, so I know I promised no more pictures of Nathan eating food, but this is a little different. At each meal, as we’re about 1/2 of the way through, Nate tries to grab the spoon and feed himself. Knowing that this is part of learning, we let him play when he has finished his bowl of food. Friday night he REALLY wanted that spoon when he was still eating and was very adamant (i.e. fussy) about it. So we gave in.

As you can see by the smile on his face he was very proud of himself. But he had prunes everywhere. I mean everywhere. So…

into the tub we went. He loved every minute of it!

Ouch!

Nathan is getting really good at grabbing objects. Unfortunately, he’s also getting really good at grabbing hair. Daddy and Nate were reading last night and having a great time.

They were reading one of Nathan’s favorite books, The Story of Ferdinand, which was given to him by his Uncle Randal and Aunt Erin. It was Uncle Randal’s favorite book when he was growing up and Aunt Erin searched the entire state of Mississippi (practically) to find this book for Nate. We read it almost every night.

While they were reading Nathan became very excited and I was fortunate to have my camera handy to capture what happened next.

He had a death grip on Jeremy’s hair. I had to pry his hands open and make him let go. Jeremy said it hurt…really bad.
