Our baby announcement

Robin and I had been waffling on what to send out as a baby announcement, but leave it to Celeste, our social media analyst at work to pass along a link to the perfect idea.

In Japan, a trend for baby announcements is to send out a dakigokochi, a baby-shaped bag of high grade rice with a picture of the new arrival and a greeting printed on it.  The bags are filled so that they weigh the same amount as the baby’s birth weight.

So there you go, expect some rice in the mail.  Make some sushi with it, or if that’s not your thing, try a broccoli rice casserole or something.

Or not.  They don’t deliver to the US, and each bag costs $35-$45 USD a piece.  Too bad.

It’s about time, right?

Well, as should be pretty obvious by now, I’ve finally gotten around to designing Mr. Nate’s web site.  Today was the last day at work before our week-long Christmas break (one of the perks of working at an employee-owned agency), and things were a little slow.  It took me about 2 hours to do this redesign from start to finish.

Of course, the site is designed using all the exact colors of his room and probably features text that is too small for grandparents to read.  Let me just bask in the glow of how good I think the design looks before you make me change the font to something bigger. :)

Anyway…

So, I’ve got these extra days off, and I plan to get to all the to-dos that Robin outlined in the previous post plus hopefully get the basement close to finished.  I certainly doubt that I’ll have flooring down by January 1, but I sure plan on having all the walls up with a coat of paint on them.

As I write this, grandma and grandpa Fuksa and great-grandma Laporte are about 1.5 hours away from the house.  We’re having our family Christmas get-together this weekend in KC since Robin’s been banned from travel until Nate’s born.

Here’s hoping all 5 of the rest of you who read this site have a Merry Christmas.

Welcome to our family website!
